My Story
By: Vanessa K. Hernandez
When I was 3 months my mom did not take care of me because she was very young. She was about 15 or 16 when I was born. I was only a baby so I don’t remember much but my Great grandparents told me this story. My mom was too young to take care of me on her own so she gave me to her dad, my Tata. My dad gave up on me and my mom so right now I do not know my dad but my Tata has told me that he lives in San Diego. His side of the family hardly comes and sees me but I don’t trust them that much. Right now I live with my Great Grandparents. My mom lives with my “step dad”. He is like a dad a dad in my eyes and he cares a lot for me, but he is my little sisters’ dad. My mom and him are not married though. But what I have learned is that I know I have people there for me. I know this because I love and trust them. I also know that my Tata is always with me also.
My Turning Point
By: Jacqueline Sanchez
When I first came in here and I was reading, I didn’t know what some words meant. It was until I got some cards, copied them down from the computer that I knew exactly what the words meant or at least had a better idea. Then I actually started learning new things. Some words were kind of difficult to pronounce at first and to find the correct definition for them because some words had more than one meaning. I never knew that words could have multiple meanings so I found that to be interesting, I also learned how to write the words I didn’t know. I already knew the syllables, and I knew what some of the words meant when I read the book and used context clues.
